Lush Surroundings … From the Crown Metropol Hotel atrium you enter Neil Perry’s famous Rockpool Bar and Grill. Walking through a long, fairly dark, tunnel of glass panels which are illuminated with candle like electric lights. Hidden behind the glass panels are the wine and beef cellars to entertain you on your way through to the restaurant.
On heading into the light at the end of the tunnel, we were greeted with smiles. We explained we wanted burgers and were shown to a table. Water and menus followed quickly. On the lookout for Neil Perry sightings. But, sadly, it wasn’t to be on that particular day.
We both chose the fried chicken burger and we weren’t disappointed. Served on a brioche bun, the breaded chicken breast was tender and juicy. And, the coleslaw, with a spicy tangy dressing, was exceptional.
Chose a glass of the house champagne from the yarra valley. It was crisp and clean and a great accompaniment to the meal. Xena had a mocktail, which had a fabulous peach taste.
The staff were attentive but not intrusive and we felt very comfortable being there. The white coated waiter in particular was extremely pleasant to deal with and very good at his job.
The décor has great ambience and it’s nice to see the kitchen is open. Cool to be able to watch the chefs prepping and meals being made. Kudos.
Who would have thought I’d be sitting in Rockpool enjoying a meal. It was something we’d wanted to do for a long time. And, here we were, eating Burgers, albeit pretty spectacular burgers. But burgers nonetheless.
