Elusive Eclairs … A friend mentioned that I had to go to Choux Café Patisserie Francaise for their éclairs. So off we went to Swanbourne but sadly, they were already sold out by the time we got there. The waitperson explained that Tuesday mornings were a good time to snag an éclair.
A little disappointed, we consoled ourselves with a chicken pie, a cappuccino and a hot chocolate. Let me just say that the chicken pie’s pastry was fab, light, flakey and nicely browned on top. Perfect.
So, on cutting into the pie I found a large amount of very well cooked chicken breast sitting in a light mushroomy sauce. The sauce and chicken complimented each other perfectly and the result was absolutely delicious.
The coffee was stand out, firstly, it was hot, and strong, two big pluses. And, secondly, there was a small amount of foam and no milky back taste which made it a perfect coffee for me. Xena was very enthusiastic about her hot chocolate and bonus marshmallows.
So, Choux café has a lovely small garden area out the back. The al fresco space has colourfully painted cooking relics, plants and shaded tables. We managed to get an outside table and we felt lucky to be dining in such a pleasant environment.
Excellent food display cabinet with loads of savoury and sweet delicacies. We spent some time perusing the offerings and must say that was encouragement enough for a return visit.
So, it was a very pleasant visit and shame about those eclairs. Looks like we’ll be coming back on a Tuesday.
Heritage Listed:
The three buildings, with Choux Cafe in the middle, are Heritage Listed by the Heritage Council. I was really pleased to discover that because they are gorgeous buildings and appear to be the only ones left on the Street.
