Clarences Bar Restaurant, 566 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley WA 6050, Phone 9228 9474.
It’s The Little Things In Life … Clarences is a Bar and well touted Foodie Haven on the Beaufort Street Strip. It is a sombre little venue with a small but lovely outdoor area and a split level dining room and bar. Sombre because it is quite dark inside but there is lively music playing and looking around the room, lots of smiles.
It reminded me of a Club we used to go to, exclusive and elusive at times. But if you were a regular you were thrilled to pass that roped off entrance and step inside.
We were there specifically for their Burger and Pint Special. And, solely because of their crème de la crème of Burgers, the Ramen Fried Chicken Burger. It’s a burger that has become infamous because of it’s many reviews that wax lyrical about it’s virtues.
It wasn’t easy for us though, our transition from front door to table. No reservation you see, pariahs that we were. Loads of tables vacant but all reserved. Eventually we were ushered to a “Cinderella” table. Eh, who cares if we could barely squeeze in between the table and the bench seat. We were in. Phew.
We both ordered the Holy Grail of Burgers. Xena a pint of Cloudy Apple Cider and myself a glass of House Fizz. A little disappointed that my fizz didn’t actually have much fizz. But, us pariahs don’t rock the boat. We were just happy to be there.
I felt that the Burgers deserved Heralds with Trumpets to announce their arrival. But when they were put in front of us, we just ate.
Lets just say that this Burger had it all going on. Succulent juicy Chicken, Crunchy Ramen Noodles, luscious Apple Miso Slaw and the caramelly, salty BBQ sauce to round it all off. And, the pièce de résistance, a buttery Brioche Bun.
We decided the burger was up there with Rockpool, Varsity Burgers and V Burger Bar. Fabulous.
