3,212 feet … The lofty heights of Angel Falls, the world’s tallest waterfall. But the falls aren’t the only fascinating thing to come out of Venezuela. Food like Arepas, Cachapas and Empanadas spring to mind immediately. When we heard that Angel Falls Grill had opened in Shafto Lane, off we went.
Not the first Venezuelan food vendor to hit Perth but perhaps the first in a bricks and mortar business. There are a number of Venezuelan Street Food vendors and we have tried them all. Food Truck Groupies is what we are.
Angel Falls Grill, in Shafto Lane, is also a Bar and Coffee Shop. It is a small café with indoor and outdoor seating and it has a great mural of the falls on the back wall.
The atmosphere at lunch time was really pleasant and people watching in Shafto Lane is always a good thing.
So, the food. Lots of Arepas, Cachapas and Empanadas on the menu with various fillings. Loads of Meaty options and the vegetarian options are right up my street.
Xena opted for an Arepa and an Empanada. For me it was a Cachapa. We decided to stick to the vegetarian options and it was a good choice for us. Lots of Black Beans, Feta and spicy salsa.
The Arepa, like a breadroll, was baked not fried and it had an awesome texture and a crunchy crust.
The cacapha, like a pancake, was loaded with corn kernals and tasted divine.
The empanada was completely different to anything we had tried. The texture of the crunchy pastry was soooooooo good. And, was very large for the $5.00 price tag.
SIDE NOTE:
Before they were intrepid restaurateurs the Angel Falls Grill team were intrepid Street Food Merchants. Their Market Stall “Amaizing” was amongst the first Street Food I tried. Purchased an Arepa with Chicken and Avocado. It put me on the Road to trying a variety of different cuisines. Gracias guys.
