Chilli Panda, Suite 2, 137 Newcastle Street, Northbridge WA 6003, Phone 9228 2966.
Hunan Cuisine … Chilli Panda sits at the edge of the TAFE Precinct on Newcastle Street. This small Café strip caters to hundreds of students and offers up some pretty inexpensive meals. This is a Chinese Restaurant and the surprising décor is anything but Chinese.
Was on my way to The Tuck Shop and noticed Chilli Panda. Firstly, because of the décor, it looked pretty awesome and I wanted to go inhale the surrounds for a while. And, secondly because, Chinese food.
There aren’t a lot of Hunan Cuisine spots in Perth and the idea of trying something new always appeals.
Ordered a Stir Fried Chicken with Garlic and Green Chillies, which came with a choice of rice, rice noodles or noodles. Not your usual Stir Fry though, as the chicken was cut into small pieces with the bone still on. It meant investing some time into eating but it was definitely worth it.
The smells emitting from the very large dish of food placed in front of me were sensational. The dish looked fab and it tasted even better. The really dark broth was seasoned beautifully and the chicken was very tender. The noodles weren’t bad either. There were loads of chillies, so the dish was very spicy, and also loads of whole garlic cloves and ginger slices which had been stir fried as well. Yum.
This was a great plate of food and an experience to eat. Would definitely return to have the dish again.
Staff were very friendly, the food is great and the place is licensed. So, it’s all good.
It’s only been open a few weeks but they have their act together and things are running pretty smoothly.
Total cost $14.50 with a large pot of green tea included.
