Corner Store … Came across Mt Etna Café Pizzeria in Highgate by accident. I’d been trying to find a parking spot and there it was on the corner of a residential Street. It looked just like an old corner store but I could see a Wood Fired Oven. Intriguing.
Not to be deterred I went in and chatted with the owners. It seems they’ve been open since July 2016. I was really impressed with the wooden doors, floors and the enormous Wood Fired Oven. They used recycled materials and did most of the work themselves. A great effort because it’s lovely.
Ordered a Napoletana Pizza with Olives, Anchovies and Mozzarella. This was a really large pizza and the crust was thin and crunchy like a Roman Pizza. Toppings were sparse but that’s how they’re done in Italy. No complaints it was a stand out pizza.
Those Black Olives were delicious, really fresh and quite large. Would like to get my hands on some of them for home. The anchovies were excellent.
The place has a State of the Art espresso machine and offers coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also do traditional Italian desserts.
So, the place certainly is cute and has a nice little courtyard off to the side. They have plans for a pergola / loggia and a misting system. There are a couple of tables inside and a couple on the pavement as well.
Oh, almost forgot, purchased an Eggplant Parmigiana to take home. This was delicious comfort food and even though we’d had Pizza for lunch the plate was demolished promptly. Yum.
