Locale, 36 Angove Street, North Perth, Phone 9227 0077.
Nonna’s Cucina … Locale has opened up on Angove Street in the space formerly occupied by Metrio & Co. The former owners have moved on to Odyssea at City Beach.
And that brings us back to Locale whose amiable Chef and Co-Owner is Don Morison (Veritas, Café D’Alba). Don was quoted in a Broadsheet interview as saying he wanted to serve food you would find at your Nonna’s house. I like the sound of that very much.
The space has been revamped and has a nice low key sophisticated feel to it. They serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and their Alcohol License came through a few days ago. So, it’s all go.
I ordered a glass of Prosecco (Australian) and was treated to a small Bread Basket with EVOO and Balsamic to dip. This was a revelation from the first mouthful. Smooth, velvety EVOO and the sharp Balsamic made for a fabulous blend. I actually made it through two pieces of bread, it was brilliant.
The lunch menu is succinct but reading through the choices made it easy to opt for the Spaghetti Pesto. The Pesto was a mixture of Kale, Rocket and Parsley blended with Lemon, Pine Nuts, EVOO and Pecorino. The sauce was thick, chunky and crunchy and there was a lot of it. Which suited me as there is nothing worse than not enough Pesto.
So overall this place offers excellent food, pleasant service and the chance to sip a glass of fizz with your lunch. What more do you need. I felt pampered and well fed by the time I departed.
