Moving In Stereo … Satay On Charcoal feel like old friends. The first time I tried their Satay was at the Maylands Hawkers Market @ The Rise quite a few years ago.
They were moving in stereo by having two cafes open, one in South Perth and one in Victoria Park. Just recently they closed the latter so I headed off to South Perth for a catch up.
The café is tiny with tables and chairs along the veranda and it sits virtually in a car park behind the Windsor Hotel. But in reality people come along for the Malaysian fast food so the rest is irrelevant.
Ordered a Chicken Satay set and was very happy with the look and aromas of the food.
Five good sized sticks of Satay adorned with Ketupat (steamed rice cakes), red onions and cucumber. Oh, and the best peanut sauce I’ve had in a long while. $11.50.
The meat had been well tenderised by the marinade which definitely had turmeric, honey and garlic. Yum.
The food brought back memories of Singapore’s Satay Club from the 80’s. Quite possibly the best Satay in Perth I would suggest.
So, these guys also run a Market Stall at the Twilight Hawkers Market in the CBD. And, the Season starts again in October 2017, so keep an eye out for Satay On Charcoal.
