Everyday Is Like Sunday … The ever popular Il Lido opened Canteen Pizza recently. What interested me was the owner issuing a challenge; “Our aim is to serve pizza that people will drive across town for.” A very brave statement.
So, the lazy little seaside town of Cottesloe has a new Pizza joint. But the fun doesn’t stop there as they will be showcasing other wood fired eats like whole fish and porchetta.
The café is decked out in a minimalist style which suits the beach location to a T. Loved the photographs of beach side antics from times gone by.
Was happy to finally be eating at this venue and the ocean views were pretty impressive as well.
Ordered a Margherita pizza because that’s my benchmark and was a little taken back when it arrived.
Despite the delectable San Marzano D.O.P. tomato sauce, the seared edges were a little too much for me. The mozzarella was pretty spot on which one of the wait staff said was Bufala short for Buffalo Mozzarella. Delicious.
There was also a small area in the very middle of the pie which was a bit soggy and this did make it difficult to eat.
