Graffiti King St Takeaway, King Street, (Opposite His Majesty’s Theatre), Perth, Phone 9486 5700.
My Secret Love’s No Secret Anymore … Graffiti at the new King Street Intercontinental Hotel is a little treasure. A hole in the wall venue that’s pumping out Spanish treats and amazing coffee.
Graffiti, as art, is something Barcelona holds dear and they actively encourage street artists to enliven the City. Something that Graffiti, the café, has done with their gift of a large colourful street mural to King Street.
This small takeaway only spot is attracting attention and initially it was for the coffee. But, for now, it seems their Barbacoa Buns are the main draw.
Barbacoa is simply Barbecue but the difference is they put the filings into lovely crunchy Buns.
I picked up a Falafel Barbacoa with Tahini dressing and headed to Central Park to sit, eat and listen to Jazz music. Now there’s a pleasant thing to do, new music and new food.
I unwrapped my sandwich and found loads of fillings. And, wow, the falafels were mixed with black beans so I had the pleasure of both creamy and crunchy textures at the same time. Tomatoes, quinoa (pretty sure), herbs and some small tasty white round things which I want to say are amaranth but I’m not sure. Delicious though.
So, amaranth or not this street food had me wanting to go and purchase another round straight away.
It’s a shame the secret is out, those queues are going to get longer.
