Mixed Feelings … Firstly, let me just say that Jayleas Patisserie is miles from my home, miles and miles. But I had read the rave reviews for their pies and had to make the journey to see for myself. And, secondly, I don’t eat pies all the time, just occasionally. It seems I write about them a lot though.
Really like the look of the small Shopping Centre that Jayleas is in. And, Willagee itself seems to be an appealing suburb, very close to Fremantle. The Patisserie is a charming shop with food on display everywhere you look. Bread, Pies, Cakes, Tarts. You name it, it’s there on display. And, it all looks delicious.
An odd choice, but we purchased two chicken pies, cold, to take home. The first pie was a disaster, really salty, burnt bits of gravy inside and the pastry pie base was as hard as a rock. It wasn’t pleasant in any way, so I threw it out.
Today I warmed up the second pie and was shocked at the difference. Really nice pastry both on the base and the top, a little salty but not overpowering, no burnt bits to be seen. Overall this pie I would rate at 4.5 out of 5. But the pie from yesterday could have come from a different shop and rated about a 1 out of 5. Sigh. What could have gone so wrong.
Continuity is the key in the food industry. If you have a great meal and go back to have it again, it should be the same. Or as close as possible.
