Bohemian Hideaway … Walking back to our car down a Laneway in Northbridge we stumbled upon the Mechanics Institute Bar. A little excited we rushed up a flight of fire escape stairs. At the top we found a decked area overlooking Northbridge roof tops. There was also the brick building which incorporated the actual “Bar”.
Inside the Bar it is actually like someone’s lounge room. That is, if it weren’t for the fact that there is a full length bar taking up a lot of room.The decor is all wooden floors, curtains and comfy chairs.
It’s a nice atmosphere and the staff were prompt to ask us for our order. Xena had some sort of fruity cocktail with a mini parasol and vodka. The cocktail was too sweet for my taste but the big X enjoyed it. I opted for my usual glass of sparkling white which was as cold as ice and very palatable.
We stayed for a couple of drinks and found seating outside on the deck with an umbrella. A very pleasant couple of hours, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the company.
Love this bar. It’s hidden away and hard to find. It has a funky industrial decor. There is a view of the city rooftops. The staff are knowledgeable and there is a great cocktail list. What’s not to like. It can get busy but mostly you can find a quiet spot to sit and sip. It’s a little pricey but I like the atmosphere.
Mechanics Institute Bar will also ship burgers from Flipside Burgers located directly below them in William Street. So, if you’re feeling the need for food, just order your burger at the Bar.
