Happy Diner … The trick to getting a table for lunch at Jamie’s Italian is to be flexible. Best to roll up at opening time which is 11.30am on a weekday. There will probably be a line already but it will be short. Once the doors open staff are very efficient. You will be offered either a seat at the Bar, a table, or you will have a short wait in a queue.
Any of these options has proven to be comfortable but I particularly like the Bar. This is a busy restaurant but each time I’ve been the service and food has been great. If the atmosphere is a little hectic, C’est La Vie.
On our first visit in February we dined on delicious food that is no longer on the menu. Like Jooles Favourite Tuna Fusili. The entrees were especially good. Pan Fried Gnocchi with spicy tomato sauce and Polenta Chips. Both no longer available.
Our second visit proved to be just as good as the first. We ordered a Bread Basket and Italian Nachos to share for entrée. Being a big bread fan the basket of assorted breads was a winner for me. The Ciabatta was especially good. Serving the bread with dipping EVOO was a nice touch.
Italian Nachos turned out to be ravioli filled with cheese and then lightly fried. Served up with salsa and jalapeños. This dish was really unusual but it tasted great. Oozy cheesy ravioli with spicy salsa and hot chillies, what’s not to like.
For mains Xena went with the Prawn Linguine. For me, definitely the Mushroom Fettucine. Firstly, all pasta is made in house, so you know it’s going to be fab. Both dishes were delicious.
Xena’s pasta was al dente and covered in a delicious looking tomato ragu and sweet prawns.
My fettucine with 3 different types of mushrooms and served with toasted bread crumbs to add a little crunch. So garlicky, so Yum.
Love the funky vibe of Jamie’s Italian, it is a busy place but there are quiet corners to get away from the bustle. The décor is eclectic but modern and clean. Each time I’ve been have felt quite spoiled by the quality of the food. Not quite sure why fellow Perth diners don’t seem to like this place as much as I do.
