Chicken Pie … Ducked into the Mary Street Bakery for a quick lunch and decided to try one of their luscious looking Chicken Pies.
Chicken & Vegetable Pie
Not having dined at this cafe before I wasn’t sure what to expect but was looking forward to trying the food. Today though it would have to be take away.
The pie certainly looked the part and the pastry on top was pretty good, flaky and very buttery. But the pastry on the bottom was a little chewy, still nice, but not as good as the top. The saviour was the filling. Copious amounts of chicken and a few vegetables.
So, this was a good old fashioned home style pie. It came with a small container of what I presumed was gravy but turned out to be a fruity, chutney like relish. Which I was glad I hadn’t poured over the pie. After putting some on the side I did some taste testing. Definitely preferred the pie on its own. It was a very large pie and surprised myself by eating it all.
The Mary Street Bakery staff were friendly and the café was buzzing. Have been told I need to go back to try their Fried Chicken and Pancakes.
