Fat Dragon Diner Revisit, 80 Walcott Street, Mount Lawley WA 6050, Phone 9371 8888.
Chinese Food 1 … Decided to get into the spirit of things for Chinese New Year. So headed off to Mount Lawley to revisit Fat Dragon because it’s been a while and I’m going to be eating Chinese Food for the next few weeks. Which may or may not become a tradition with Xena and I.
This serves a dual purpose not just because it’s Chinese New Year but also because it’s hard to find good Chinese food in Perth. My mission is to find food that I want to eat and return to eat and write about with gusto.
Red Dragon is dressed up for Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day and why not, it looks smashing. The place is split in two with an undercover outside area and a proper air conditioned space inside.
Love the décor, all the reds and blacks work very well. But with stray bits of industrial chic, it all works for me. The Fat Dragon bill themselves as a Diner / Chinese Restaurant and that’s exactly what the décor tells you. In the outdoor area it’s all banquet seating and diner like. While inside houses the sleek Chinese Restaurant.
And, then there’s the food. Was browsing their website and found they were serving lunch. Perfect. Purchased a Hokkien Mee to take away. Good value and a large serve at $13.00.
The aromas wafting at me in the car on the way home were alarmingly good.
Soon served myself up a large bowl full of Hokkien Mee and was surprised at the range of ingredients. Not only was there Squid, Prawns and Chicken. But also Spinach, Bean Sprouts, Spring Onions and Asian Greens. Loads of crunch in every bite. All dressed up in a dark soy sauce. Salty and Moorish.
This is a dish I will definitely return to eat. Elegant Food with big flavours. Kudos and Gong Xi Fa Cai.
