Chinese Food 3 … Well kind of. Finally we had a day free to try some noodles. 88 Noodle Bar is always busy, the food portions look huge and the décor is lit up for Chinese New Year. Three good reasons to walk in.
Service was okay. Menus were already on the table, as placemats. No water was offered. We were asked three times in five minutes if we were ready to order. It was fine though we took the time we needed to decide on the food. Ordered some drinks and sat back to smell the roses, or in this case, bamboo.
The café décor is charming, very Chinese, with a wall of bamboo lining both sides of the entrance. Partitions were abacuses (abaci?). Lots of red, black and brown.
The Noodle Bar is situated right in the centre of the Casino. So you can enjoy a bit of people watching and get the ambience of all the bells and buzzers. It was kind of cool.
Our drinks arrived quite quickly. Xena’s cocktail looked amazing and tasted just as good. My glass of Yellowglen fizz was okay. The only fizz by the glass on the menu. Felt a little miffed because the rest of the restaurants at Crown offer Veuve Tailhan at the same price. It is a much better wine. First world problems aside, this is Crown Casino, I expected better.
The plates of noodles were enormous. I believe we both would have been content with one dish to share.
Xena fared better than me, her choice of Tom Yum Noodles looked and tasted superior to mine. We swapped plates and I really liked the sauce, spicy and salty.
My dish was basically Chow Mein but with noodles. There were prawns, chicken and vegetables. The sauce was quite sweet. It tasted fine but not something I would rush back to eat again.
A hard review to write. There were good and bad elements to our dining experience.
