Chinese Tapas … That’s what Chapas Kitchen Bar is all about. Relative newcomer to the Beaufort Street Strip, Chapas offers up small plates of Chinese Fusion deliciousness.
Ventured into the venue and was blown away by the charm of the décor. From the Kitsch of the retro Asian Magazine Covers, to the Dim Sum Basket decorations adorning the walls. They’ve done a great job and the space is very welcoming.
Was presented with water and a complimentary small plate of pickled cucumber salad with garlic and chilli. A very nice touch and delicious.
Ordered three small plates of food. The first to arrive was the Prawn and Scallop Dumplings. There were three large pieces, with a whole scallop on top of a quite large piece of prawn mixture. Topped off with some orange Roe. These looked fab but tasted even better. Stepping up a notch with the fusion aspect of the dish.
The Pancakes with Scallions “Chinizza” arrived next, looking a little like Pizza. The base was crispy and crunchy and had been lightly fried. The pancake was topped off with melted Mozzarella and shredded Scallions. This was a really moreish dish.
The final plate was Prawn Toast, made with Sourdough bread and topped with shredded scallions. There was also a fair amount of Yuzu Aioli, Cilantro and Mint, such big flavours and a pleasure to eat.
Also ordered my standard Prosecco and this was a very pale fizz with a very pleasant back taste. At $13.00 it was a little more expensive than my usual but it was pretty fab. Glad I tried it.
Was really happy with my whole experience. Had to take home some food, simply ordered too much. Xena enjoyed the leftovers big time.
Chapas says their dishes are Gluten Free and believe they are the only Chinese venue doing this in Australia. Kudos.
