Down on the Corner … Out in the Street. Pinchos has expanded into the building next door and the venue now has a presence on Oxford Street. Some of that has to do with the large Pan of Paella cooking on the pavement. But mostly it’s because the space is now right on the Corner.
The new, to me, venue is airy, light and deconstructed. Exposed bricks and assorted textile flooring. But it’s the atmosphere that is magic. There is space, eclectic seating and windows to people watch through.
There is also outdoor seating both on Newcastle and Oxford Streets. The venue overlooks the neighbours, like Grill’d, Bill’s Bites and Green & Co.
But I was there for the food and after being greeted and seated I ordered 3 small plates of Tapas. Oh, and a glass of Pinchos Espumoso, a very nice tipple of Spanish fizz. And, at $7.50, a bargain.
So, the Tapas.
For $1.00 a Pintxo Gilda. White Anchovy, Guindilla Pickle and an Olive. I remember trying this last time and should probably have ordered a few. It was very small but with big flavours, a palate pleaser.
For $7.90 Aguacate. Guacamole, Confit Piquillo, Anchovies and Truffle Oil. This was like a bruschetta and the bread was so good. Lashings of Guacamole on the bottom, lots of soft delicious red peppers and some of the best Anchovies I’ve had for a while. I know what I’m having on a return visit.
For $9.50 Champinones Croquettes. Mushroom, Leek, Manchego and Garlic Aioli. Three skewered crunchy croquettes filled with smooth mushroom, leek and cheese filling. Must say the Garlic Aioli worked so well with these babies. Yum.
Just keep doing what you’re doing … Food, Service and Atmosphere all ticked.
Lunch Specials late 2016:
Always like a good lunch special and lightly fried calamari with an orange, goats cheese, nuts, raisins and greens salad. Plus two small pinchos and flat bread for $17.50 won me over.
