Hey. Cool. Easy. Sweet. … Beaufort Local (formerly Beaufort St Merchant) has a split personality. Inside there is utter sophistication while outside is a funky al fresco with real trees and eclectic seating.
My first encounter was at 7.00am one morning when I was itching for a coffee. The place looked amazing with all those tans and browns and the ultramodern light fittings, wow. There were booths, low tables, raised levels and the huge open kitchen. Oh, and the courtyard out the back looked pretty inviting but it wasn’t open.
So my cappuccino was perfection, not only did it smell great but it looked pretty slick. Coffee Art and a hell of a big taste and just the kick I needed to get me to my meeting. So good.
My second visit was to try the food. So I headed straight for the Al Fresco and ordered a glass of Prosecco and a couple of plates of Bar Food. It’s great that they have the sophisticated menu for real adults. And, the Bar Food for people like me who like to eat small plates of food.
Arriving first was a plate of Hummus with Garlic Confit and sourdough striped with EVOO. This was not a Hummus taste I was used to, it was milder and very garlicky but mixed with the bread and EVOO it was just lovely.
The Salted Cod Fritters arrived in a sea of Pea Puree. They were perfectly fried and the Puree was a vivid green. The two separately tasted pretty damn good but together there was a nice little taste explosion going on. Yum.
So as it turned out the garden area suited me just fine because there was loads of shade and a lovely space to sit and sip my fizz. Beaufort Local is my sort of place.
