El Grotto, 5 / 148 The Esplanade, Scarborough.
Andale! Arriba! … Which just means “hurry up” or “get going”. If ever there was somewhere to get you going it would be El Grotto a Mexican Taqueria and Bar on the Beach.
El Grotto is also a “Live Band” venue and Tequila Bar but I didn’t feel out of place at all. Loved the décor, the menu and staff were really friendly.
We ordered a few small plates of food and the table was soon overloaded with delicious looking grub. All tacos, tostadas and corn chips are made in house.
Firstly, Xena had the Cauliflower, cheese and Macha Oil Taco which was insanely good.
For me a Baja Fish Taco with salted red cabbage and Chipotle mayo. Could have eaten these over and over.
The Guacamole, salsa fresco and totopos (crunchy corn chips) was excellent. Very fresh and delicious.
Xena had to have the charred Prawn tostadas and the plate presented very well. Each small portion was near perfect, tasted amazing and was Xena’s first preference.
I had to have the Quesadilla with mixed mushrooms, black beans, soft cheese, smoked paprika aioli all wrapped in a blue corn tortilla. This was my absolute favourite as the flavours were surprising. The main proteins went so well together it was bliss.
El Grotto has authentic Mexican / South American food and joins a small clique of similar places in Perth. They’re doing it well.
