As Time Goes By … Wow, it’s been a year and a half since I first visited Betty & Dave’s Espresso + Kitchen. Decided a revisit was in order because of two little words “Posh Pies”.

The first visit and a conversation with a staff member caught my attention when she explained that they were going to do a lot of preserves and pickling to add some originality to their cuisine. It struck me as a great idea and after reading about the upmarket pies off I went to Betty and Dave’s again.

The Pie of the Day was Chicken Curry and when the plate arrived it looked sensational. Also sitting prettily on the plate were those pickled vegetables in all their glory. And, so many different sorts like carrots, cabbage, onions, zucchini, some fresh spinach and seeded mustard. The vegetables were crisp and delightful and a good accompaniment for that pie.

So, the pie itself was large and filled with chicken curry with nice tender chicken meat and a lush sauce. The puff pastry was buttery and light and exceeded expectations.

I’m a huge Chicken Pie fan and this one is up there amongst my favourites. Lovely grub.

Oh, and the coffee is still as good as the first visit. Must remember to drop by more often.
