Among The Gum Trees … Visit number two to Kalamunda and I’m growing very fond of this hillside suburb. This trip, my mission was to try the food at Mason & Bird. After all, three of Perth’s well-known chefs run this kitchen.
Sampled the coffee on my last trip and took the small license of taking pictures of the container at a couple of Kalamunda tourist spots which was fun.
Drinking Mason & Bird coffee in house this trip was a revelation. I thought the coffee was great but I now know it’s super delicious. Great cup of Java!
The food is minimalist but the flavours are big. I ordered the Vego On Toast and it was picture perfect on arrival.
A thick slice of sourdough bread, which I want to say had a light splash of EVOO, because it glistened. Doesn’t matter, the bread was amazing. And, topped off with avocado, charred corn and tomato salsa plus a couple of perfectly poached eggs.
That salsa was a nice touch and the chewy charred corn was my favourite.
The venue is small but very attractive and was packed with people inside and spilling out onto the Al Fresco deck.
So, the staff were all happy to be there and this made my visit very pleasant.
