Fika On Brix, 86 Brixton Street, Beckenham, Phone 6369 1213.
Everybody Have A Swedish Fika … It’s almost an institution in Sweden to stop and smell the coffee. Having a break and a small snack every now and then sounds like a great idea to me.
Fika on Brix is a small café that sits in the middle of Mills Park Nature Play Centre which is a wonderland for children, what with the swings and the many adventures to go on.
Meanwhile the adults sit and sip their coffees and contemplate what to eat for lunch.
I ordered the chicken katsu bao with finely shredded slaw and Sriracha mayo. These bao were soft and pillowy and definitely made fresh that day.
This time the main attraction was the chicken because it was so tender all the way through and I would love to know who their butcher is because the protein was just about perfect.
The food presented well and the lotus crisps with fresh chillies enhanced the visual big time.
Ordered a pot of Jasmine Pearl Tea which I have tried before but had forgotten how good it was. I drank possibly three cups and it was delicious.
So, just for fun I Googled to see if there was a song about Fika and it turns out there is a very popular one from a singing duo called Go Royal. These guys are hilarious and their story sums up the concept of Fika extremely well.
