I Should Have Known Better … Than to visit a new Café in the first few weeks after opening. But did that stop me? It did not. Magna Pizza has just opened a new Store in Mount Hawthorn. It’s the sister to the Fremantle Store. And, given all the positive reviews, I couldn’t wait to sample their wares.

Is Preston St the New Orange? … Pretty sure the last time I was in Como there wasn’t really a Strip. But on my way from the car to Hangout on 20 Preston I counted a good 7 or 8 Cafes. Also, there are a couple of High Rise Apartment Buildings going up nearby, so I imagine that will attract even more Cafes.

Adieu Giardini Cafe … And, hello Thai Spice on Oxford. Used to frequent Giardini Café quite a bit. In it’s heyday it was a vibrant place. Saying that, was very excited to see Thai Spice on Oxford arrive on the strip. Was even more excited when I found the Restaurant open for lunch on Saturday.

Thieves Like Us … It was a Video Store. Then it was going to be an Italian Restaurant for a long time but that never happened. Then overnight, it was turned into a tribute to the Dianella Community. And, that’s only in the last five or so years. The space is now home to Curry Thieves, Dianella’s first Indian Restaurant and Take Away. And it snuck up on us.

Hit the Road Jack … Fronted up to Side Door BBQ in Highgate. But it was not my lucky day as their BBQ Chicken was still a long way from completion. Not a problem really but a little sad that there was to be no BBQ for me.

Filling the Gap … The Beaufort Street Café Strip is a little lengthy. Spanning, as it does, from the CBD through to Bedford. And, that means there are gaps where no Cafes, Franchises or even Lunch Bars can be found. Secondeli Cafe has nestled into the Strip where there is a definite gap.

Shakshuka and Surprises … Headed off to Nash and Co for brunch this morning. This is a surprising venue, housed as it is in an old building on the Maylands Café Strip. It’s full of nostalgic bric-a-brac and is laid out like someone’s home.

Good Things / Small Packages … Unassuming, modest, restrained and petite but packing a big punch food-wise. Sunshine Café and Lunch Bar in Mount Lawley is a place I’ve walked past many times. But recently I’ve been hearing good things about their Banh Mi and knew it was time to step inside.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan … Can’t decide if I think Casa Bianchi is Xanadu or Shangri La. This is a café that used to be a Nursery and now is a blissful hidden garden space with water features and secreted nooks. It’s breathtaking.
