Great food … On entering Lucioli you are confronted with an array of amazing looking sweet treats. This was a nice way to be introduced to their food with Rum Babas and Croissants. And, the fabulous Bar which takes centre stage in the main space.

Road Trip … We went on a bit of a road trip recently which started quite early in the a.m. About half an hour into the drive we decided food was needed urgently. This is not unusual for us. So, we stopped at a group of shops in Herne Hill, one of which was the Coffee Hut.

Since 1971 … Miss Maud is a Perth tradition. Established by Maud Edmiston, an immigrant from Sweden, who wanted nothing more than to cook for Perth. And, to introduce Swedish food to a new audience. Her success today is the culmination of years of hard work on her part. In 2011 Maud celebrated 40 years of trading and over 16 venues to her name. They seem to have been a part of my early life and family celebrations for a long time.

Surprising chicken pie … Had a chicken and vegetable pie from Le Bakehouse and was surprised at how much chicken was in the pie. Great tender chicken pieces with vegetables and a subtle sauce. The flaky pastry was great. Definitely recommend.

Chicken Flute … Chez Jean Claude Patisserie Subiaco is located on Rokeby Road, at the Nicholson Road end. It is a Swiss Patisserie, not French, as you would expect. But as Swiss cuisine is influenced by cuisines from neighbouring Italy, Germany and France, there are traces of French cuisine in their products.

Pretty Good … Love Subiaco and the wide range of cafes. But, since Boulangerie closed it’s doors, I’ve been looking for a regular haunt. I may have found one in J’aime Patisserie Café.

The Best of the Best … In 2014 there is a craze in Perth for these little biscuits the French call Macarons. The City is literally swimming in the little dears. Everyone wants to have the new craze on their shelves. But some are doing it better than others. And, Maison Saint Honore is definitely one of the best.
