Health Freak Cafe - Acai Smoothie Bowls

In the last six months or so Smoothie Bowls have burst onto the health food scene with gusto. I’d decided early on that it was a silly idea and ignored the trend. Because she knows I like their food, Xena suggested we try HFC’s version, so off we went.

I ordered the Acai Bowl which came with macadamia cranberry muesli and was topped off with strawberries and banana. It looked a treat with it’s dark purple colour and the layers of fruit.

Because I had no idea what to expect I was surprised at how cold the Smoothie part of the dish was. It wasn’t liquid but kind of a thick ice cream which I guess is Coco Whip a big seller for HFC.

The muesli provided a crunch, the Acai was very tasty and the whole bowl was consumed quite quickly. Of course, Xena helped with that.

Xena ordered the Chick Pea, Spinach, Quinoa and Sweet Potato Curry and her dish also presented very well. It looked lush with the green herbs strewn through the mix. I loved this dish, as did Xena, and mainly because of the softness of the chickpeas and the freshness of the ingredients.
