Memories Won’t Go … Young George is a chilled out Bar in East Fremantle with a serious focus on food. It’s housed in a lovely Heritage Listed building split over two levels.
Walking into the venue I was delighted with the space they’ve created. The modern touches blend perfectly with the structural elements. The building dates back to 1897 with Victorian, Georgian and Federation origins.
But I digress, let’s talk about the food and there’s a lot to talk about when it comes to victuals at Young George.
A great menu that gave me a dilemma in deciding what to eat. Eventually, I chose three small plates of food. Let’s concentrate on those for a bit.
First up, the milk bun with ramen fried chicken, fermented slaw and Caesar dressing. It was exciting to find this on the menu as it was the star dish at another venue, until it disappeared.
Let’s just say I enjoyed my trip down memory lane immensely and this mini burger was insanely good.
Three smoked Trout croquettes were next with a delicious, I want to say dill, mayonnaise. Such delicate flavours and great texture made this a stand out dish.
The final plate of tiny squid in a little pool of fabulous chilli broth with red peppers and green herbs, was delightful.
The squid was very tender, moorish and the depth of flavours were significant. Yeah baby.
So, staff were a little silly and that always appeals to me, as so many are so serious these days.
A very enjoyable visit.
