Hand Made Treats … Sugar and Nice is a small café, relatively new to Beaufort Street. They offer up tempting treats, brunch, good coffee and special occasion cakes.
Sitting right next to Miss Kitty’s Saloon on Beaufort Street Sugar and Nice has an eclectic, funky décor, which I found really appealing. There is also a gift shop section of the café, towards the back of the building.
Their food display cabinet has an amazing assortment of cakes, pastries, chocolates and sweets, some of which are used as decorations. It’s a pretty dazzling display.
On my first visit, I tried a Hazelnut Scroll. It was quite large, with lashings of hazelnut filling. A bit like a cinnamon bun but with crunchy hazelnut added to the butter and cinnamon.
Not trying the coffee the first time, I returned to try the froth. Ordered a cappuccino and was very happy with both the crema and the froth. Swirled together and delicious. Nice strong coffee.
I also picked up a Panini with Avocado, Olive Oil and Lime to go. This was a really simple meal but made with great ingredients and it was brilliant. The Lime made the Avocado taste amazing and the bread was excellent. Sometimes it pays to keep is simple. Yum.
There is definitely room for Sugar and Nice on the Beaufort Street Strip. Especially as they are producing such delectable and varied treats. It makes me want to go and see what’s new every day.
Oh, nearly forgot, they also have a coffee window which opens at 7.00am each day. For those that can’t help giving in to temptation, it means you don’t have to enter the palace of tempting treats.
Guess we will return to try brunch, probably as soon as Xena hears about it.
