Food and Wine … In 1936, during the Great Depression, John and Maria Re took a risk. They pawned Maria’s engagement ring to buy a property in Northbridge. Here they opened The Re Store. Which was one of Perth’s first retailers of continental foods. John and Maria imported their stock from Europe.

The Re Store Leederville

The Re Store in Leederville came along a bit after that but it has it’s own history. And, has been a haunt of mine for years.

Firstly, they have a fabulous wine cellar. With imported wines from Europe and all over the World. Definitely a first class selection of Italian Wines. They also have great wine sales, when stocks exceed floor space.

They have a Cheese Counter, where they will slice cheese off a round, or block for you. Ditto with their Salamis and other meats.

They have a Lunch Counter where you can purchase a continental roll, filled with their produce. These are very special. Think Crusty Italian Bread with Provolone Cheese, Eggplant, Red Peppers and Salad. Yum in a Bun.

There is a Grocery Section with imported Tunas, Pastas, Coffee, Olives and Tinned Vegetables. Always pick up a couple of tins of San Marzano tomatoes while I’m there.

There is a Fresh Pasta Section, with house made pastas and a selection of house made sauces. And, right next to it, grated Italian Parmigiana Cheese.

And, we won’t even discuss the Italian Chocolates and Nougat Section.

Or, the Panettone; Olive Oil; Anchovies; Balsamic … yeah you get the picture.

The Re Store Leederville is a wonderland.
