Gooseberries, Unit 41 / 33 Blythe Avenue, Yokine WA 6060, Phone 9201 2073.
Bliss on Blythe … Gooseberries is the new kid on the Blythe Avenue block and has only been open a few weeks. It was an Ad on Facebook that made us set off to try their food.
The café itself is located at the bottom of a brand new block of units in Yokine. It is modern and bright and has a minimalist décor which seems to suit the place. There is an al fresco area at the front of the Café which has faux grass and outdoor furniture, looking a bit like someone’s back yard.
Staff were helpful and pleasant and our water was topped up continuously. We had a coffee while we studied the menu, which was quite large. The coffee was pretty exceptional and there was a nice Crema swirl in the froth. I’d suggest Gooseberries is a bit of a find really as not only is the food good but the coffee is as well.
The display cabinet held a load of sweet and savoury treats which were so tempting.
Xena decided on the Nasi Goreng with Chicken Satay and an egg on top. There were sides of fresh sliced chillies, Soy and Shallots and a spicy chilli sauce. Xena scoffed the whole dish quite quickly but I managed to snag a taste. Nice.
So, I opted for Avocado and Poached Eggs. This was a little cornucopia of a dish with Sourdough Bread, Avocado, the Eggs, Tomatoes, Spinach, Chilli Salsa and Pesto to top off the eggs, Yum.
So, there is a good reason this cafe is currently on trend and it’s the food, it’s all about the food.
