Maylands Markets @ The Rise – Street Food

Standard

Maylands Markets, The Rise, 28 Eighth Avenue, Maylands WA 6051.

The Original Family Food Market … Maylands Markets was amongst the first dedicated food markets to spring up. The Market is family and pet friendly. There are free activities for children, like face painting and mega bubbles. A lot of thought has gone into this event. Rest assured the adults aren’t forgotten.

This is a comfortable Market located in The Rise on Eighth Avenue. It seems to be a perfect venue, tailor made for this type of community get together.

Inside The Rise are multi-purpose courts for sports enthusiasts. But outside there are lush green lawns complete with tiered terraced seating. There is plenty of room for the crowds that regularly attend these Markets.

And, then there is the food. We counted sixteen food trucks in place this last Saturday Night. A good representation from the First Wave of food trucks / market stalls. Old-timers like Bangkok Jump Street, Marcelita’s Colombian Empanadas, Miam Miam, Satay on Charcoal. Delish Ice and Shak Shuka. To name just a few.

And, relatively new-comers like Tapas Man, Spicy Bite, Turkish Hot Plate and Maison St Honore.

This is one of my favourite Markets. It’s a relaxing atmosphere. There are loads of places to sit. And, best of all they have live music every week.

We purchased a Vege Heaven Curry, with Rice and Naan Bread from Spicy Bite. It was the only thing we tried this time. Usually we sample the wares of a few vendors.

This was good grub. A spicy vegetarian curry with all the usual suspects like potato, green beans, carrots and onions etc. With a fair sized serve of Dahl and Rice. Fresh cooked Naan Bread straight from the grill. Restaurant quality food.

The driving force behind all this is Catherine Ehrhardt and her Company LACE (Local Arts & Community Events). Together with a loyal team of volunteers, they make this market happen every Saturday Night of the Season.
