Dr Clause – CLOSED AUGUST 2018

Standard

Dr Clause, 25 Gladstone Street, Perth.

Think. Create. Gather. Eat. … Dr Clause sits in the midst of the Claisebrook Design Community. A community designed to support people with ideas and energy. All I can say is that a lot of ideas and energy has gone into the food and coffee at this tiny café.

The word exceptional springs to mind when I think about our experience at Dr Clause. Due mainly to their menu being so very interesting and the fact that they make a lot of the food on the premises.

Xena’s Iced Latte looked great and after a sip I knew this was great coffee. My cappuccino was pretty special and in a week of great coffee it is in the top three.

Food wise Xena chose the TRUDEAU, a Brioche French Toast thick cut with Bacon, Ricotta, Chilli Maple and Sesame Praline, phew. A tantalising description and it tasted as good as it sounded.

So, I chose the ALP, an open sandwich on chewy Sourdough with Avocado, Labne, Pistachio and assorted seeds and it was delightful. Love the little extras they added like the Labne, Pistachio, Seeds and the roasted Lemon which was a real treat.

Oh, and why Dr Clause? The Café is named after Frederick Clause, a naval surgeon and an early explorer of Western Australia. He was part of the crew on Captain James Stirling’s trip up the Swan River in 1827. Famous for painting “Clause’s Lagoon” in 1828.
