Aliment, 170 Railway Parade, West Leederville, Phone 9388 8163.
A Rose By Any Other Name … The meaning of Aliment is food or nourishment. Must admit that for the longest time I read it as ailment which doesn’t quite have the same zing to it. On this visit I discovered that Aliment could, quite possibly, have the best fried chicken in Perth.
Situated on the new West Leederville Café Strip Aliment is just a short walk from West Leederville Station.
The clientele are mainly suits and there are queues for coffee. Quite rightly so, as my coffee was hot, strong, frothy and fab. The only slight issue I had was the sugar in the froth but hey not a biggie.
So, on to the food. Looking over the menu one item jumped right out of the page at me. And, that was the house made crumpets with buttermilk fried chicken, maple bacon, fried egg and smoked paprika maple sauce.
Biting into the fried chicken made me want to do a little dance because it tasted delicious and melted in my mouth. It wasn’t greasy and no traces of guilt were to be found. Combined with the egg, the crumpets, which were amazing, and the maple smoked paprika sauce the flavours jumped up and hit me in the palate.
I’ve had a good run the last couple of weeks because the meals have all been pretty special, this one included.
