Spritz Spizzicheria Italiana, 148 Scarborough Beach Road, Mount Hawthorn, Phone 9444 3839.
Time Is Fleeting … Spritz Spizzicheria Italiana and their dessert café Affogato Gelateria kind of dominate the Mount Hawthorn café strip. They sit side by side and make a nice looking couple.
The Cafe Strip has altered significantly over the last six months with some premises disappearing hastily.
I looked up the word Spizzicheria and decided that it is Spritz’s play on the word Pizzicheria. And that translates as a “shop of fine food, caterer, deli, specialty ready to eat”.
This rings true because Spritz offer their house made charcuterie or boards of antipasti as nibbles before the main course. And, they have a “Kiosk” hole in the wall where they offer a smaller menu at take away prices.
In pride of place is the Wood Fired oven, with the Pizza Chef on show as he kneads dough. Must return to sample those Pizzas most certainly.
Aperol Spritz is their signature cocktail and between 5.00pm to 7.00pm daily they are $15.00.
So, back to the food. Anytime there is Gnocchi on the menu that is what I order. So, today was no exception so I ordered Gnocchi alla Sorrentina which translates as Mamma’s Tomato Sauce with Parmesan, Bocconcini and Basil.
This dish was near perfect with the amazing sauce laced with the two cheeses. The bocconcini was drippy and gooey and the Gnocchi itself was soft and there was a lot of it. But it was savoured let me tell you.
Acoustic wise the venue is great which is some feat because it sits on a busy road and there are high ceilings. It’s a large venue but they play pop tunes reducing the surrounding conversation to a low hum.
So, now I have to tell Xena that I’ve eaten at Spritz today. Wish me luck.
