Mt Hawthorn Streets & Laneways Festival 2018, Scarborough Beach Road, Mt Hawthorn
A Spoonful Of Sugar … Is what lured me into traipsing this hilly suburb. And, that sugar was firmly placed in Pio’s pistachio gelato, yum. Oh, and is it just me or were there double the numbers from last year?
As it took a fair time to find a place to park and then to dodge and then evade the multitude of people at the Festival. Which is something I’ve not experienced at this particular event. But, saying that, it was fun, fun, fun.
What led me to assume this was Spritz Spizzicheria’s outdoor seating area which had been transformed with a Gazebo. Wow, top idea guys, especially on this overcast Sunday afternoon.
So, numbers were definitely UP for 2018 but there were less food trucks this time. However, the majority of restaurants / cafes were open for business. Such a great atmosphere and with smiley, happy people everywhere.
To be quite honest, I didn’t eat very much, but I did head straight to Bites By D to grab a spinach and feta sausage roll. Just because they were absolutely delicious last year and this year’s version is still aromatic and scrumptious.
Was absolutely blown away by Pio’s Café and the effort put in to sell their wares on the pavement outside. Tasting the balsamic reduction with the crusty Italian bread was first up and both were delicious.
Then I noticed Pio’s had a gelato stand outside and I ordered a pistachio which was ludicrously delish.
And, then, they pulled out a very large paella pan and began making a gnocchi with Napoletana sauce. This ginormous pan was actually used to toss the gnocchi and became a bit of a show with the crowd. At $10.00 for a hearty serve plus entertainment, this was the place to be.
So, the only thing that was annoying was missing the Killer Hipsters perform. Still, there is always next year.
