Bakery on the Park … Was walking around Hyde Park a few weeks ago and saw the opening soon sign for this bakery. Was in Highgate today and decided to try the food.

Chu Bakery - On Hyde Park

The buzz about Chu Bakery is pretty loud, they’re so hot right now. As a consequence the shop is quite crowded and queueing usually ensues. But it is worth the wait, the food is sensational. The cafe is take away only. There is limited seating but with Hyde Park just across the road, that isn’t a problem.

Purchased an almond croissant take away on my first visit. Flaky pastry with a light and delicate almond paste, coated with a small amount of icing and lashings of sliced almonds. Delish.

On our second visit Xena and I went back to try the coffee and food and to eat in the park. Chu Bakery’s coffee is very good, not too strong, with a brilliant crema. We also tried the Chocolate Eclairs and the Green Tea Yuzu Puffs. Blissful is the word that comes to mind. The Yuzu was tart and just right, the Chocolate Eclair with chocolate patisserie creme was mouth-wateringly good.

But the star of the show, for us, was the tuna baguette. House made sour dough bread which was super crunchy on the outside and soft inside. The tuna was mixed with a small amount of mayo and red onions, topped with cucumber and lined with spinach. Exceptional.

Chu Bakery also offer “Toast”. Not just any toast but their house made bread, sliced thick and topped with things like Hummus, Cucumber and Chillies. Or, Whipped Feta, Chillies and Prosciutto. We’ve tried them but, alas, no photos. At $7.50 these lunch items fly out the door.
