High Society … The Mantra on Murray Hotel holds 4 stars and sits between William and Queen Streets. Inside, the Society Bar & Café is small but elegant and they offer a buffet breakfast.
It seems Buffet is the new black in Perth at the moment, as I walked around for an hour waiting for The Apple Store to open. I counted four places that offer this now in the CBD.
So, I decided to go with the Continental which means no hot food but muesli, yoghurt, fresh fruit, sweet and savoury pastries. Plus juices, various breads for toasting, condiments and unlimited eating.
Oh, and quite lovely filtered coffee that surprised me with flavours and aromas. Sometimes, old fashioned is the best, so many memories of this type of java.
The savoury pastries were interesting, the latticed one had a green paste inside and I still haven’t worked out the exact concoction but flavour wise it was okay.
The mini savoury muffin was buttery, light and it was hard to work out those flavours too, but they seemed to mesh quite well.
On the sweet side I found some new favourites, a petite ribbon pastry with chocolate and caramel. This pastry presented a fabulous taste combination and was scrumptious.
Up next the tiny Danish pastry and more treasure inside, a creamy custard and spiced apple. Pretty near perfect with it’s crunchy top layer on the pastry.
So, staff, atmosphere, food were all in place and that cup of Joe, wow.
